HOMEOWNER RESOURCES
A clearer look at property taxes.
Learn how assessed value and tax rates work together in Knox County, and where to check the details for your own property.

A higher appraisal does not tell the whole tax story.
A property tax bill depends on both the taxable assessed value and the applicable tax rate. A change in the county’s appraised value alone does not tell you exactly how your bill will change. The Assessor explains that rates are adjusted following reappraisal; taxing bodies make their own rate decisions.
Knox County now follows a two-year reappraisal cycle. For a purchase or household budget, check the current parcel record and the relevant taxing jurisdictions instead of relying only on a prior listing’s tax figure.
Bring taxes into the ownership budget.
Ask your lender how property taxes are reflected in your payment estimate and whether the loan includes an escrow account. A seller’s current tax bill may reflect circumstances that do not apply to you. Confirm available relief or exemptions with the responsible office.
I can help you gather the property information for a useful conversation with your lender or tax adviser. Your individual tax obligations should be confirmed with those professionals.
